#TED #TEDtalk I’ve just been asked to organize this years #TEDxParramatta with @ICE_org_au! Thanks for all your beautiful work in coordinating it this far, Leeanne :)
Eddie! Crazy dog that I grew to love while I was in Auckland for my TEDx talk. There, I stayed with Eddie’s family, the Hollingum’s one of the coolest families on the planet!
A behind the scenes look at TEDx Auckland where we were invited to speak about our collaborative work as the creative collective, ‘Plum Jungle’. It’s shot in our signature ‘continuous stills’ style ;)
Show & Tell: our latest ‘continuous stills’ masterpiece - ‘TEDx Auckland’! Sending it to u soon, Richard!
Caught up w/the Baron - he beautifully cut together our stills & my music for our TEDx reel!!! Love it!!!
True nobility is not about being better than anyone else. It’s about being better than you used to be.
So while in Auckland, Pete & I were told about a ‘jam night’ at the Thirsty Dog along ‘K’ Road. So we decided to tell all the great people we’d just met @ TEDx to join us there for drinks and a sing-along… but what we discovered was one of the worlds best kept secrets!
Seated in an oval were around twenty people, all with an instrument, ranging from acoustic guitars to mandolins, violins, banjos and hand percussion. Each person would take a turn performing a song (cover/original) and everyone would join in, instinctually varying the texture during choruses, solos, etc.
Many colourful characters frequent the bar, and one such person is Terry, 83 years of age, he brings his own chair, often eyes closed with an egg-shaker, keeping time to all the songs, and when it come to his turn, he lets loose with a beautifully strong voice singing folk songs.
Recently we’ve been in correspondence via email, and here are a few pearls of wisdom he freely gave me, and I’d like to share them…
I am one of these that will have a go at anything
win, lose or draw. Life is a Spiritual path with numerous rewards
along the way but
they happen within a difficult process. True nobility is not about
being better than anyone else.
It’s about being better than you used to be.
I’ve already applied these words to my life’s philosophy.
Gavin Blake from ‘Fever Picture’ drew our talk @ TEDx Auckland & loved my music soundtrack for ‘Sydney Seen’ (available on iTunes) so he’s incorporated it in an epic ‘Graphic Recording’ of Rachel Botsman’s book What’s Mine is Yours: The Rise of Collaborative Consumption. It was completed in 14 hours over two days! Incredible work, mate!!!
